Hi, Cheryl-

I thought you would enjoy this blog, dissecting the outfits of one of the “crazy dressers” from the Baby-Sitters Club book series. You were a fan, no?

Claudia Kishi—like Punky Brewster and Pippi Longstocking before her and the cast of Rent after her—may have been the subtle inspiration for some of my college outfits, and a little bit for my character Felix in Calla Boulevard, a girl who tries to be fashion forward and ends up just being weird. I might have to blog about this blog. Thanks, baby!

Wow, this is like some secret that boys aren't supposed to be in on.

No, no, you can totally be in on it as long as you're into sparkly pink high-top sneakers and ceramic earrings and bracelets made out of telephone cords.

Speaking of the Babysitters Club, I remember being really sad when the tomboy one (Kristy?) shaved her legs for the first time to go on a date with a boy. It was one of the first losses of a queer role model for me.

Yeah, Kristy was way gay until she wasn't. It was like the Girl Fight of the '80s.
