how my art class is going

I am learning things about water colors.

I am learning how much I don't know.

I learned that children's books almost always have 32 pages.

I am learning a lot about my five-year-old character, Vivi. For example:

Sometimes she's sad.

Sometimes she's skeptical.

Sometimes she's resourceful.

Sometimes she dresses her cat up like a dragon and fights him.

Sometimes she dresses herself.

Sometimes she organizes bicycle rides to raise money for charitable causes.

Cheryl, I loved these, thanks for posting!
It gives me the same good feeling I got as a kid when poring over pictures in children's books, over and over, noting all of the details.

Yay! That's what I'm going for--thanks!

Thanks! Although I should add that photographing paintings and uploading small versions of them makes them seem more like real book illustrations and less like paint smeared around a piece of paper. I also highly recommend color Xeroxing. It makes everything shiny and pretty.

vivi is so cool.
For everything you have done is way far much better than my own drawing. That's why you rarely see my drawing :-) Keep going.....

I love these drawings. In your book, do you think Vivi could meet a Filipino kid named Noel and they become best freinds forever and forever?

Thanks, y'all.

L: Who needs to draw when you're practically a professional decorator? I've seen your blog, Ms. Modest!

N: Vivi spends most of the story plotting against her baby sister with help from her cat, Jeff. As long as little Noel takes an anti-sister stance, he's totally invited.
