normally i hate l.a. haters, but sometimes i hate l.a.

Things I could have done in the four-and-a-half hours it took me to take the train and bus to and from work yesterday:
  • driven to Vegas
  • flown to Chicago
  • put in a week’s worth of work on the novel
  • taken three yoga classes
  • watched two movies
  • earned enough money to pay for at least a small item of Ikea furniture
  • written to several representatives advocating for better environmental policies, which probably would have had more impact than the soupcon of greenhouse gases I avoided emitting
  • read 92 pages of Richard Powers’ The Echo Maker

Actually, I did do the last one while en route. Not everything about public transportation sucks.

I feel it.
I am a big public transportation geek...
It doesn't take twice as long to get places around LA by subway/bus than it does by car. It takes three times as long. It's untenable. The only answer is a full citywide subway.

AK: Telling my story is the first step in the healing process.

V: While I've busted out my laptop on airplanes, I've never tried it on the bus--maybe because I've been in denial that I'll be there long enough to get anything done. But maybe it's time to move from denial to acceptance.

N: Four and a half hours of sex does sound great, if a little tiring. How about two and a half, broken up by some good cuddling and a couple of cigarettes?

D: Oh, Subway To The Sea...you are legendary and still far too mythical.

And I had such a GREAT public-transit-in-LA experience yesterday. Let's not talk about it.

Yeah, if I tried to make mine into a music video for my blog, the song would have had to be reeeeaally long, and probably death metal.

Yes, but it only cost $3. Or something like that.

I've experimented with UCLA to Pasadena. I wonder if it makes a difference where you catch the train? I jumped off the 2 and walked up to Hollywood and Highland and think it took ONLY two hours. But that might have been wishful thinking.

The Flyaway from Union Station to LAX is the best.

Oh, and Happy Birthday!

I think the key is catching the train instead of the bus whenever possible. Catching the bus can be like catching a disease.
